Upstairs at Pier 38

If you’re looking for a special place to celebrate a birthday or another occasion, Upstairs at Pier 38 is a wonderful option that combines fantastic food, impeccable service, and breathtaking views. I recently had the pleasure of dining there for a birthday celebration, and the experience was truly memorable.

For our group, we were treated to a set menu that provided a variety of delicious options. The meal kicked off with a shared appetizer platter featuring ahi poke, a crowd-pleaser that was fresh and flavorful (not surprising since they source their fish from the fish auction), and a cast iron baked brie that was creamy and indulgent. Along with the appetizers, we enjoyed Parker house rolls with butter—perfectly soft and warm.

Next, we were each served a Caesar salad, which had a crisp, refreshing crunch.  By this time, I tink many of us were feeling full from all the appetizers!

Speaking of entrees, we had two choices: the misoyaki Chilean sea bass, which was perfectly cooked and full of umami flavor, and a 6-ounce filet mignon, tender with just the right amount of seasoning. Both options were excellent, and many of us had to take some home due to the generous portions.

For the little ones, there was a keiki menu that included a choice of catch of the day, which looked just as delicious as the adult options—definitely a great touch for families.

One of my sons loved the sliders which were served with shoestring fries.

Dessert was a sweet finish to a wonderful meal. We were treated to a chocolate brownie that was rich, gooey, and just the right amount of decadent. It was the perfect way to round out the meal, although most of us ended up taking it home because we were so full!

The staff at Upstairs at Pier 38 were attentive, friendly, and made sure that our needs were met throughout the evening. It’s always nice when the staff is genuinely engaged, and they helped make the birthday celebration feel extra special.

If you can snag a table near the windows, you’ll be treated to a beautiful harbor-side view—especially magical during sunset

Open nightly for dinner.
